Significance of Purattasi Month First Day

                          A Divine Beginning

The month of Purattasi is considered one of the most auspicious periods in the Tamil calendar. The first day of Purattasi holds special significance as it marks the beginning of a sacred month dedicated to Lord Venkateswara (Perumal). Devotees believe that observing rituals, fasting, and prayers on this day brings immense blessings, prosperity, and spiritual growth.

On this day, people wake up early, clean their homes, decorate entrances with kolam and mango leaves, and prepare traditional vegetarian dishes. Many devotees observe Purattasi Sani fasting (on Saturdays) starting from this day. Special prayers, chanting of “Govinda, Govinda,” and offering of tulasi, banana, and flowers to the deity are common practices.

The first day sets a divine tone for the rest of the month, reminding devotees to stay pure in thoughts, words, and deeds. It is also believed that worship during this month removes obstacles and strengthens faith in Lord Venkateswara.
